Classic Fast Foward

Every Wednesday, I'll be posting up a "classic" album and then pressing the fast foward button to modern times and giving you another album that bleeds "classic" material. For the first Classic Fast Foward, I'll be using one of my favorite albums of all time. That album is none other than Michael Jackon's worldwide masterpiece "Thriller".  Released in 1982, this record is easily takes the prize for the best pop album of all time.  In 1984, "Thriller" got drenched with gold from 7 Grammy's, including Album of the Year. Pop music was defined by this album. For a 20 year old kid to grow up on this album, and still to this day give it spins, just proves how ground breaking it was. I really don't have to even post the hits because everyone and their mother knows them all but here's 2 cut's that define the albums brilliant production and explain just how big of a hit machine this thing was (is).

Love.Hate- The Dream
Easily my favorite album of 2007 when it dropped. The Dream is a true modern day pop Mozart. I had no idea who The Dream was when this record was dropped into my lap. I can clearly remember waking up one tuesday morning and making my usual drive over to Target (closest place to my house at the time) and searching for the new releases. I saw The Dream's album on the shelves and scooped it up. After blasting the anthem "Shawty Is The Shit", I let the entire album run. When it I was finished I was blown away. I still to this day have not heard a better pop/ r&b album. Production wise, it is one of the freshest sounding records I've let my ears listen to. Every single track has that clean radio feel, with that synth club candy coated shell over Dream's perfectly fitting vocals. When you talk about who puts out the best music pound for pound today, The Dream easily is at the top of that list. I highly recommend buying this album for any pop or r&b fans. I can safely say this is another true "classic" album. It's going to be really hard for him to top this when "Love.Money" drops March 10th, but if anyone can top it.. it's him. Here are two jam's from the album.

Tuesday Feb.24.2009 -New Music Report

After waking up, watching Saved by the Bell re-runs .. (the one where Zack hooks up with Lisa as Screech watches) I fired up the mac book and went to browse and listen to the newest official hip hop drops of today.

Singles

Rick Ross feat. John Legend- Magnificent
Melodic beat. Seems like Ross is going to actually drop a really decent body of work. Could be his best album to date and I enjoyed his first two efforts. I think Legend compliments the hook and gives this song a nice spring/ summer driving music feel to it. I can always remember driving from Orlando down to the beach and listening to Trilla.. nice summer vibes.

Twista- Wetter
It's been a minute since I played some Twista. I remember grabbing his Kamikaze album back in '03 and enjoying a decent ammount of that record. "Overnight Celeb" still gets spins for me. Wetter is another laid back type track. Reminds me of a cut that shoulda been on Kamikaze. Typical Twista speeded up flow with some sick word play drenched over the calm beat. Worth checking out for sure.

Flo-Rida feat. Pleasure P- Shone
Club joint.. not really feeling him but I guess if I had a few drinks in me, I'd listen to it?

Albums

Joe Budden- Padded Room
Didn't get to give it a full listen but heard mixed reviews from a few friends who got the chance to bump it. What they said was average beat selection and a few songs that stood out.. other than that it was a typical lifeless Budden album. I will give it a spin later this week and give you my opinion on it.
